Kids in Ibiza are proud to showcase a series of hard working Ibiza Mamas who have built their own business empire. This week we present you with Zoe Kingsbery Coe, who founded the niche family travel website Kid & Coe in 2013. When not handpicking the best in family holiday accommodation, Zoie is a busy mama of 3 living in Ibiza.
What brought you to Ibiza?
I have been visiting Ibiza for the last 20 years (!), but this is the second winter we have spent here. I am American and my husband is British. We came here with our two children whilst I was pregnant with our third, who was born here.
Tell us about your children:
We have three children, Luca who is 11, India Rose who is 7 and Ivy Love who is 2. Luca and India Rose speak English and both Luca and Ivy Love speak Spanish well after going to an immersion school in NYC and playing with his Spanish football team 4 days a week here at Santa Eularia Penya. He’s fluent in the swear words and the girls are both picking it up quickly!
Nurseries and schools in Ibiza – what have you chosen for your children and why?
Our two older kids go to Morna, and we are hoping to move our eldest to Mestral for secondary school. Our littlest one is going to Menuts nursery in Santa Gertrudis. I will be honest, I was conflicted about sending the kids to Morna at first as I had hoped for a Spanish school like S’Olivera or Mestral, but they are happy and thriving there and I think especially in the primary years that’s what is most important in a school.
Tell us more about your business:
I own a website that specializes in family travel, Kid & Coe. We handpick the best in holiday accommodation – from private family homes to boutique hotels to cool campsites- all with the common thread of ‘would I love to take my kids here’. We are a team of 9 and have around 1400 properties worldwide.
What’s your mama trick to manage work and family life?
It’s challenging with the time zones because my team works remote, so I try to just be as flexible as possible and know that sometimes I have to do Skype meetings with LA at 9 pm, but I get to pick my kids up from school. I don’t really have any ‘tricks’, but because I do get limited blocks of time versus a long work day, I try to make those count and prioritize one or two things that are going to make a difference. I also turn my emails off of my phone when I’m home in Ibiza since I will be in the office to deal with them… takes the temptation away to constantly be checking in!
What’s your favourite day out with your family?
We love packing a picnic and heading to Salinas or Cala Comte (out of season), or a great beach restaurant like Sa Caleta or Cala Carbó. I’m happiest on the beach with sand in toes.
What’s your best day and night spent on the island when not working and off mama duty:
For day, I love hiking and discovering the island. The gratitude and appreciation for this island never seems to fade, only grown. My husband and I like to head into town for dinner or drinks out- I love wondering around Ibiza town getting lost and finding new left turns. And during summer, I can almost always be convinced for a club night out just about anywhere.
