Mamas in Ibiza
Annemarie Bauer
Kids in Ibiza are proud to showcase a series of hard working Ibiza Mamas who have built their own business empire here in Ibiza. This week we present you with Annemarie Bauer who owns the concept classic car rental businesses Ducks United and 4×4 Ibiza Rent Ibiza and most recently opened the stylish restaurant and hotel Gare Du Nord Ibiza.
What brought you to Ibiza?
I moved to Ibiza 8 years ago after finishing with my job in sales and marketing at a bank. I had become tired of the same four walls and daily grind so moved to Ibiza initially for 6 months. I met my now husband Ramon as we were living in the same house. After just 3 months we owned a dog together and I never went back.
Tell us about your children:
I have 3 children. Xavier – 5 years old, Mimi – 3 years old and Vigo – 1 year old. I had all 3 children at home here in Ibiza. We speak Dutch together as a family and Castellano and Catalan at school. The children have also picked up some English.
Nurseries and schools in Ibiza – what have you chosen for your children and why?
My older 2 children go to a small Montessori based school near La Paloma. We feel very happy and fortunate to have the school so close to home and with only 57 students in total, it is a very close and familiar school for them.
Tell us about your work / business:
We have multiple business interests. We own Ducks United and 4×4 Rent Ibiza, which is a concept and lifestyle rental car business. We not only offer the rental of classic cars but extend a concierge service to our customers. Using the wonderful space and premises we have, we built our restaurant and hotel Gare Du Nord, which opened in May. It is a good, authentic place offering fine food and a special place to stay. I try to be at the restaurant and sample the food as often as possible.
What’s your mama trick to manage work and family life?
With 3 children this is very difficult. I somehow manage to find moments in between like when my children are playing or sleeping or at school. I am also very fortunate to not be confined to set working hours like in an office so can time manage that way. If I need to meet with employees or go out, we would get a babysitter
What’s your favourite day out with your children /family?
We love to dine out and are very lucky that our children eat everything. A perfect day would be some beach time followed by a nice lunch.
What’s your best day (and night) spent on the island when not working and off mama duty?
Sleeping! Haha! I don’t get a great deal of time off from being a mummy but I would definitely catch up on some sleep or go for a massage.
I try to get out a couple of times a week, most often to Gare Du Nord but love to sample fine food with friends.
