Summer Nostalgia
I don’t know how you feel, but every year at around this time I take a long, deep breath and go – “Ah, the worst is done.”
Don’t get me wrong, I love summer on this island, but Ibiza is that bit too overcrowded, I have that bit too much work, the weather is that bit too hot and the kids are just that bit too moany after almost three months of school holidays – it just all creeps up on me eventually.
This year, for the first time before school started again, I took two short breaks from being a working mum. The first one as an off duty mum and to focus on my work here in Ibiza and the second one to treat myself a bit – I still worked (a little) whilst away.
My kids spent the first week of September with their grandparents in Germany, partly due to the weather they literally turned into cooler kids again and these grandparents – seriously, they deserve a medal! They all then flew back to the island together and just three days later my parents resumed their superstar grandparent role by looking after the kids for a long weekend while I jetted off to the Côte d’Azur.

In the meantime, school finally restarted in Ibiza and after two short breaks away from one other, the entire family appreciates being back together again.
“Ok, the worst is done”, I hear myself saying again… and it wasn’t so bad after all.
But hang on – have I really done everything I wanted to do this summer?
Every year I imagine myself with a group of fellow island girlfriends and all our children in one of the wonderful venues, where Kids in Ibiza host their kids corners.
I made it to the new kid on the block Rehab Beach Club in Talamanca with my friend Caroline and her three children, to El Chiringuito with my friends Jill and Carlota, plus hubbies and kiddos in tow, a lunch at Beachouse with my family, the medal winning grandparents included.
I enjoyed a good chat with my DJ friend Ainsley May at Nassau Tanit Beach while our kids were jumping through the waves at Playa d’en Bossa – but actually both of us were there for work reasons.
I was invited to a lovely birthday lunch at Pura Vida which eventually turned into lunch and dinner; Babylon’s Juices and smoothies are beyond delicious in 2017 and well – what can I say? Pikes on a Sunday is simply legendary. Even more so when you’re a parent and your offspring is being entertained by our lovely Guenda.
A proper island girl’s lunch with my favourite Mamas still hasn’t happened in any of the above mentioned venues yet. I’m definitely up for it and need to start working on this immediately! The weather forecast looks promising for the coming week, so let’s get out and enjoy this beautiful island and its fabulous restaurants.
